ABOUT PORTO & POSITION:

To support our continued European growth, ALTEN has established a Center in Porto aimed at delivering critical IT, administrative, and business support services to the Group's international operations.
In this context, we are looking for an experienced Development & QA Tech Lead to join the Group IT (DSI) department and lead a multidisciplinary development and quality assurance team based in Porto. The successful candidate will manage a local team composed of QA Engineers, Java Developers, and Web Developers while working in close collaboration with a France-based Tech Lead to ensure alignment of technical strategy, delivery excellence, and quality standards across multiple locations. 
The application landscape includes strategic Group IT solutions used by tens of thousands of users across Europe, covering Java/Spring Boot services, Angular applications, APIs, PostgreSQL databases, Azure-based delivery pipelines, WordPress/PHP web platforms, and emerging AI-powered solutions. AI-assisted and agentic software development practices are increasingly embedded into the delivery model, making innovation and continuous improvement key components of the role. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

       Technical Leadership

• Lead technical design, architecture decisions, and development best practices;
• Provide guidance, mentorship, and code reviews to development teams;
• Collaborate with international teams to ensure technical alignment and delivery excellence.
  
  Team Management
  
• Manage and develop a multidisciplinary team of Developers and QA Engineers;
• Conduct performance reviews, career development discussions, and team coaching;
• Support recruitment, onboarding, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  
  Quality & Delivery
• Define and promote software quality standards and testing strategies;
• Ensure successful delivery of projects, enhancements, and production support activities;
• Drive continuous improvement across development and QA processes.
  
  Innovation & AI
  
• Promote the adoption of AI-assisted development and testing practices;
• Drive innovation initiatives and evaluate emerging technologies;
• Support the implementation of scalable and efficient digital solutions.
  
  Collaboration & Governance
  
• Partner with business and technical stakeholders to deliver value-driven solutions;
• Ensure compliance with security, risk management, and governance standards;
  Foster a collaborative, high-performance, and continuous-learning culture.

PROFILE:

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field;
  8+ years of experience in software engineering and technical leadership roles;
• Proven experience managing development and/or QA teams, including performance management and team development;
• Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, and Angular development;
• Experience designing APIs, scalable applications, and maintainable software architectures;
• Good working knowledge of PHP and WordPress environments;
• Experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases;
• Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, pull request workflows, and software quality controls;
• Strong experience defining QA strategies, test automation frameworks, and quality processes;
• Knowledge of software security principles, audit readiness, and operational risk management;
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools and modern software delivery practices;
• Ability to drive innovation initiatives and evaluate emerging technologies pragmatically;
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills;
• Ability to work effectively in multicultural and multi-site environments;
• Fluent English (mandatory);
  Portuguese language skills are required.
  
  NICE TO HAVE:
  
• Experience with Microsoft Azure and Azure DevOps;
• Experience with microservices architectures and observability practices;
• Experience with Laravel, Symfony, React, or Node.js;
• Experience working with distributed teams across multiple countries;
• Knowledge of LLM integrations, retrieval systems, AI agents, or related AI technologies.
